Chlorine Vs PoolSan
PoolSan is a revolutionary chlorine-free swimming pool system designed for easy maintenance, safe water quality, and eco-friendly pool management. Ideal for domestic and commercial pools, PoolSan replaces traditional chlorine with a copper-based ionic solution, ensuring clear, healthy water without harmful chlorine exposure.
What Is PoolSan?
PoolSan is a saturated ionic aqueous solution containing:
-
Copper
-
Silver
-
Zinc
-
Aluminium
-
Gold
These natural mineral ions work in two ways:
-
Eliminate algae and bacteria – ions disrupt enzyme processes and cell structures of microorganisms.
-
Enhance filtration – charged particles aggregate and are trapped by the pool filter.
The result is a stable PoolSan residual, maintaining water safety and hygiene until the ions are used up.
PoolSan Dosing Guidelines
Example for a 60,000-litre pool:
| Product | Dose | Frequency |
|---|---|---|
| PoolSan Liquid | 1 litre | Every 4 weeks |
| PoolSan Regenerator+ | 1 kg | Weekly during active use, every 4 weeks during low season |
| pH+ / pH- | As required | Maintain pH 7.0–7.4 (target 7.2) |
Application Instructions:
-
PoolSan Liquid: Pour half into the filter intake, the other half evenly around the pool.
-
PoolSan Regenerator+: Scatter powder over the pool (two-thirds over the deep end) with the filter running. Wait 15 minutes before bathing.
-
Maintain copper residual at 0.4–0.8 mg/L using a PoolSan pool tester.
Notes:
-
Maximum UK/EU copper limit: 2 mg/L – PoolSan remains well below this.
-
Test and maintain pH between 6.8–7.4.
-
Use Regenerator+ for cloudy or green water, or to restore PoolSan activity after heavy use.
Step-by-Step Start-Up Guide
-
Calculate pool volume:
Length x Width x Average Depth = Pool Volume
Example: 18m x 8m x 1.5m = 216,000 litres -
Test and adjust pH:
Maintain 7.0–7.4, target 7.2, using PoolSan pH+ or pH- -
Initial PoolSan dosing:
-
Check copper level before dosing
-
1 L per 50–60,000 litres of pool water
-
Example: 90,000-litre pool = 1.5 L PoolSan
-
-
Initial PoolSan Regenerator dosing:
-
20 g per 1,000 litres
-
Example: 50,000-litre pool = 1 kg Regenerator+
-
-
Ongoing maintenance:
-
Weekly dosing for active pools
-
Every 4 weeks for low usage
-
Adjust based on copper readings (0.4–0.8 mg/L)
-
Maintain oxygen levels (Regenerator+) between 3–8 mg/L
-
PoolSan Regenerator+
-
Purpose: Shock treatment, clears cloudy or green water, restores sanitizer activity
-
Dosage: 200 g per 10,000 litres
-
Application: Add directly to pool with good circulation, before or after bathing (15 minutes wait)
-
Frequency: Weekly during active use or once per 4 weeks when pool is inactive
Regenerator+ Dosage Table:
| Pool Volume | Dose |
|---|---|
| 25,000 L | 500 g |
| 30,000 L | 600 g |
| 50,000 L | 1 kg |
| 90,000 L | 1.8 kg |
| 120,000 L | 2.4 kg |
| 150,000 L | 3 kg |
| 300,000 L | 6 kg |
PoolSan Pool Testing Guide
Using 3-Section Vial PoolSan Tester:
-
Rinse compartments with pool water, fill to top with water from 30 cm below surface
-
Add tablets:
-
Left: Phenol Red (pH)
-
Middle: Copper No.1 (PoolSan level)
-
Right: DPD No.4 (Oxygen / Regenerator level)
-
-
Stir Copper tablet to dissolve
-
Replace lid, invert to mix, hold against natural light
-
Read results:
-
pH: 7.0–7.4 target 7.2
-
Copper (PoolSan): 0.4–0.7 mg/L
-
Oxygen (Regenerator+): 3–8 mg/L
-
Notes: Use electronic testers or strips if preferred. Adjust doses accordingly.
